Location

Saas Fee is a beautiful mountain resort with excellent training facilities. The glacier, where we will base our training in November, is chosen by several World Cup and regional teams as their autumn training venue. The terrain for training is varied providing both gentle and challenging pistes enabling an effective progression, the uplift is efficient, the resort is supportive and the snow is reliable and well prepared. Other sporting facilities included a swimming pool, indoor and outdoor tennis, astroturf pitch and extensive hiking tracks.

Race Training

The training will be focused, challenging and fun in order to provide the highest level of race training. The training will aim to build each skier’s overall skiing and technical skills in order to get the most performance out of their skis. Everyone will benefit from an individual approach to their training, helping to develop skiing skills and the application of those skills to racing. The coach to trainee ratio will be no bigger than 1:6, providing an exceptional individual training experience. There will be a balance of technical work combined with drill courses and race courses. There will be a progression throughout the weeks to finish the camp with the skills and confidence to race a race course.

The time on the mountain will be structured to provide effective training. A timing system will be used regularly to record progress and simulate a race environment. Video analysis will be used regularly to aid performance development. Each athlete will be given their video to use as a learning tool after they leave the camp. Each week there will be Giant Slalom training with Slalom training also available during weeks 3 and 4.

There will be varied and extensive off the mountain support during the camp. Including sessions on sports psychology, video analysis, nutrition, fitness and ski preparation demonstrations. Fitness is a crucial part of ski racing. Everyone will receive a ski specific pre-camp fitness programme so that you can arrive at the camp in a shape to make the most of it. During the camp there will be after ski fitness sessions focused on components of fitness specific to ski racing.

Since Saas Fee has an excellent Super-G piste, speed training will be available on request. Please contact ski@amandapirie.co.uk for more information about speed training.
